Acacia Public WLAN/BTLAN Acceptable Use Policy

This facility and it's entire functionality is provided on a good faith basis, and for all those that choose to abuse it, all abuse will be investigated and followed up with relevant parties.

The use of the Acacia Public WLAN/BTLAN is subject to the following terms and conditions. Any breach of these conditions will lead to your connection being terminated and depending on the breach, details reported to local authorities.

  • By using this facility, you agree to abide by this Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Specifically, you must NOT:

    1. attempt to interfere with or intercept the communications of other systems on the WLAN/BTLAN, Acacia network or Internet.
    2. make use of this system for activities that are deemed illegal in the Australian Capital Territory, including, but not limited to publication of pornographic or obscene material.
    3. use this facility to send unsolicited commercial or bulk electronic mail messages to anyone.
    4. access, post or transmit to or via this service any information or materials, which breach any laws or regulations, infringe a third party's rights or privacy, or are contrary to any relevant standards or codes.
    5. cause the bandwidth of this facility to be saturated for long periods of time.
    6. make any fraudulent or speculative enquiries, bookings, reservations or requests using this service.
    7. impersonate another person when using this service.
    8. post to or transmit to or via this service any obscene, indecent, inflammatory or pornographic material or material that could give rise to civil or criminal proceedings.
    9. tamper with, hinder the operation of or make unauthorised modifications to this service.
    10. knowingly transmit any virus or other disabling feature to or via this service.
    11. attempt any of the above acts or permit another person to do any of the above acts.

It should be noted that this service:

    1. has limited bandwidth to the Internet which is shared with other users.
    2. does not support VPN establishment protocols and so will not allow VPN traffic.
    3. does not filter, detect or act on any viruses.
    4. may restrict access to some web sites based on proxy server filtering rules.
    5. only supports HTML and SSL traffic to the Internet that is initiated by PCs on the WLAN/BTLAN, meaning that you will not be able to host web or mail servers using this service except to other users on the WLAN/BTLAN. Email us us if you have a non-commercial site that you would like Acacia to host at no charge. We can provide either a sub-domain within Acacia.com or Acacia.com.au or host your own domain.
    6. all access is logged and monitored both by automated systems and is manually vetted in firewall logs and proxy logs.
    7. by their open nature, all WLAN/BTLAN traffic is easily monitored and can be intercepted by third parties, even if security is enabled. As such you should not use this facility to transmit sensitive information such as passwords, financial details etc.
